Area

Idea details:

I made and decorated a Mother's Day flower pot, and planted her a window begonia in it.

  1. I made a list of the materials needed, and determined the cost, then multiplied Oklahoma tax for a total (% to decimal, multiplication and addition).
  2. I determined the volume of the pot to decide how much soil would be needed (volume = pi x R x R x H).
  3. I determined the area of the base of the pot to cover it in felt to protect the window sill wood (area = pi X R x R).

The planted flower pot made a nice gift. Math is used in crafts all the time.
