Kids Go Crazy for Math Again! Googol Learning's 2nd Annual Crazy 4 Math Contest Encourages Families to Practice Math Together
The Crazy 4 Math Contest once again is receiving entries from all over the world, showing that mathematics, the universal language, is enjoyed by children everywhere. "Many of the entries we see this year are ideas that bring families closer together - playing games, measuring a garden, building a fort, baking cookies, selling at a yard sale, even hiking up a mountain," says Susan Jarema, founder of Googol Learning. "It's wonderful to see parents and children spending time together... and, of course, using math!"

Producer Susan Jarema and Local Performer Mr. I Have Joined Forces to Provide Local Schools with a New Performance Called Crazy 4 Math. "Crazy 4 Math is an interactive school show that makes math exciting," says Susan Jarema, show producer and puppeteer. "We've spent the last year writing songs, rehearsing and receiving feedback from local elementary schools. Crazy 4 Math, I'm now proud to say has evolved into a motivational and entertaining show for primary schools."

The INDIE nomination of the children's music album "Addition Celebration" has created a big celebration of its own among the members of the Googol Power Team. Susan Jarema, producer of the Googol Power Math Series is honored by the nomination. "We are thrilled to see a math album be recognized yet again by the Canadian music community," says Jarema. "I am so proud of everyone involved in the project." This recent nomination comes less than a year after the first album, "Multiplication Vacation", won an INDIE award during Canadian Music Week in March 2005.
The Canadian Independent Music Awards is part of the 6th Annual Canadian Music Week (March 1-4, 2006), taking place in Toronto. It is Canada's largest annual entertainment event. Winners are chosen through an online voting poll, open to music fans from January 16th to Feb 12th at www.cmw.net.

Author and music producer Susan Jarema has written the new children's book "Nena's Math Force" to inspire children to see the importance of understanding the basics of math. In this magical story, characters from the Googol Power Math Series help a young girl named Nena to build her Math Force. Great Thinkers such as Archimedes, Galileo, Da Vinci, Mozart and Cleopatra are called upon to help Nena discover the patterns in numbers, develop number sense and make sure she does not only rely on memorization of her math facts.
Comprehending the basics of math requires a combination of making sure your child understands the patterns in numbers and learning basic facts. Sometimes you need to be able to quickly recall basic arithmetic. New math curriculums have evolved to focus more time on gaining an understanding of numbers and problem solving. However, we still need to make sure our children learn the facts.

The Googol Power Math Series has now been officially released through Warner Music Canada and will be available to record stores and other retailers in Canada. Pacific Music, Googol Power's Canadian distributor, has partnered with Warner Music to make available many of their titles to mass-market retailers.
Mike Peters, President of Pacific Music, is a strong promoter for West Coast artists. Partnering with Warner Music allows smaller labels to be able to make their music available to fans through the larger retailers. There are many exceptional artists on the West Coast that just need a little help getting heard.
"I took on the Googol Power Math Series after my children tested out Multiplication Vacation and Addition Celebration," says Peters. "They loved the music and my wife and I loved the fact that they were learning." Pacific Music now supplies a select line of educational music CDs and DVDs to retailers.

Susan Jarema, producer of the Googol Power Math Series, initially set up the Crazy 4 Math Contest to help families in her neighbourhood enjoy math outside of school with their families. Then she took it online. "Since then it has taken on a life of its own," says Jarema, also known by children in her community as The Learning Lady. "I hadn't expected so much interest. Now I'm getting emails from families all over North America and even the world wanting to participate. It's wonderful to see such excitement about math!"

Susan Jarema, creator of the Googol Power concept of layered learning through music, is thrilled by the positive response to this first album and is very honoured by this national award. "It's hard to believe that one year ago, I was struggling with how to teach my young children math," says Jarema.
