Crazy 4 Math receives 3rd nomination for INDIE in upcoming Canadian Independent Music Awards

The latest INDIE nomination of Googol Power's "Crazy 4 Math" album (published by Googol Learning) has created a "Craze" of MATHemMANIACS across Canada. The 7th Annual Canadian Independent Music Awards is part of Canada's largest annual entertainment event — Canadian Music Week, taking place in Toronto from March 7-10, 2007. Winners are chosen through an online voting poll, open to music fans from Feb 5th to Feb 23rd at www.cmw.net.

The album "Crazy 4 Math" comes from the live show performed by Susan Jarema (founder of Googol Learning), Yurgen Ilaender (known as Mr. I), and the MATHeMANIACS - four young singers from the Musical Rainbow Program — Sabina, Ben, Taylor and Maya. Jarema is honoured by the nomination. "We are triple thrilled to see our third Googol Power album be recognized by the Canadian music community," exclaims Jarema. "This album is particularly special for me because it truly achieves my goal to get children excited about math. Both the live show and the album leave children inspired to build their basics in math - what we call our 'math force'."

This is not the first INDIE nomination for the group. Googol Power's first album, "Multiplication Vacation", was voted Canada's Favourite Children's Group in 2005 and "Addition Celebration" received a nomination in 2006. The series has also won numerous other awards, as well as US and international recognition.

"I am so lucky to have found such a great team of local Canadian talent to help me turn my ideas into reality," says Jarema. "I try to put a lot of educational content into each album. In addition to math, our 'layered learning' music contains history, geography, science and art." This often makes writing each info-packed song a challenge for David Pavane, Googol Learning's Music Director. "Sometimes I don't see how we can get in all the curriculum and still keep it entertaining and musically solid... and yet it comes out sounding great in the end."

Googol Power is made up of the 'Googols', seven birds from another galaxy, along with 20 other puppets and illustrated characters. Behind the scenes is a collaboration of artistic talent including Susan Jarema, David Pavane, Yurgen Ilaender (Mr. I), Jon Hemingway, Gary Huntbatch, Mick Dalla-Vee, Christine Frandsen, and Kerry Lackner.

In Crazy 4 Math, children are taken on a MATHeMAGICAL trip through time. Listeners Dive into Times to meet Cleopatra, Archimedes, Galileo, Benjamin Franklin, Amadeus Mozart, and Leonardo da Vinci. They discover how math has greatly influenced our world and learn that math, the science of patterns, is everywhere — in music, science, nature, art, and architecture.

For Jarema, the increasing popularity of Googol Power proves the power of music as a learning medium for children. It also proves that Canadian children are, in fact, Crazy 4 Math when given the right tools. "Children can all grow up loving math if they start early and it's made fun," says Jarema. "When children get the basics down they find math easy and become confident. Googol Learning products encourage families to learn together and inspire a love for life-long learning."
